Dear First Grade Families,
Wow, this week went by quickly! In math we have been working on place value and grouping things by tens. At home you can help foster this skill by letting your child count out items in groups of tens to see how many items there are. You could make it a problem you have, for example “I wonder how many beans are in this one cup. Could you help me count them?” Counting by groups of tens is easier for them than counting by ones to a high number. Please let me know if you felt this weeks spelling words were too hard, easy or just right. I have talked to a couple of parents and your input is much appreciated. Our pumpkin celebration was a success! Thank you to all those who made goodies. It was delicious. Next week will be our last week of community helpers. Thank you to all those who shared about their jobs and how they help the community. We learned a lot. Next week will be the beginning of our nutrition unit. We will look at the food pyramid and making healthy choices.

Volunteers Needed
I am looking for parents who would like to volunteer weekly in our class. The following are the times and days we could use a little extra help:
T-F 9:00-10:00 (math rotations)
Class Mom/Dad: needed to set up rides for field trips, organize class parties, etc...
Call me or send me a note if any of these times or days would work for you.
Thank you to those of you who are volunteering!
